St. Pancras International becomes the first railway station in the world to launch state-of-the-art cleaning robots in a bid to minimise the risk of COVID-19 to travellers.
From September 23, the mobile autonomous robots – designed to kill viruses and bacteria both on surfaces and in the surrounding air – will be patrolling St Pancras International station.
UV radiation has been shown to damage the genetic material of viruses, hampering their ability to replicate.

Using UV-C light rays to deliver fully autonomous, fast and chemical free disinfection to large areas, the UVD robot’s unique technology can kill 99.9999% of viruses and bacteria including COVID-19 on all surfaces and in the air surrounding it in a matter of minutes.
Alongside this, the Eco Bot 50 cleans and disinfects surfaces simultaneously with an automated scrubber dryer. The robot’s function to auto-charge, drain and refill means minimal human interaction is needed and it is able to provide thorough and consistent cleaning 24/7.
St Pancras International is the ninth busiest railway station in the UK with 34.6 million entries and exits in the year to March 2019. Since the lockdown, rail usage has fallen dramatically with the government reporting a 70 per cent drop in usage.
